Ronan Cregan Captain
A Lion from the very first bounce. The leader who lifted the double and carried Limerick into the top flight.
The heart of the Eagles.
You could build the case for Limerick basketball around Ronan Cregan. He learned the game here, with the Limerick Lions, aged ten, and he never left. No import story, no winding route in from somewhere else. Just a local lad who stuck with it and ended up captaining the senior side in the city that raised him.
Every good side has a player who holds the middle of it together, and for the Eagles that's Cregan. He sits between the senior imports, the returning core and the young Lions lads coming through, and keeps the whole thing pulling one way. That's the captain's job, and he does it without making a fuss about it. The composure goes back a while: two Irish European Championship teams at U16 and U18, and a national schools title won on a buzzer-beater, the ball in his hands with everything on it. You don't fake that.
Across the 2025-26 double-winning run he was the constant. Top of the Southern Conference, the National Cup won, the Division One title won, promotion to the Domino's Men's Super League sealed. Through all of it the captain set the standard at training and on game night, and the rest of the squad followed. Fitting that the man holding the trophies came up through Limerick from the very start.
“Started with the Lions at under-10. Two European Championship teams. A buzzer-beater for a national schools title. Now lifting the double as captain.”
