Profile

The Lions' bright young thing.

Rookie guard. Limerick Lions all the way up. Number 3.

Fred Klimas is a shooting guard who can score and set up scores. Across his U16 Youth EuroBasket run with Ireland he sat around 8.9 points and 3.6 assists a game, comfortable taking the shot himself but happy to give it up when the read is there. He has played for Ireland at two FIBA Youth EuroBasket tournaments now, U16 and U18, and once top-scored with 20 in a national U16 schools cup final. The reputation arrived before he did.

The shooting is the headline. He gets his feet set, releases clean, and has the range to stretch a defence into a shape the rest of the lads can play through. When the game tightens, he wants the ball.

2025-26 with the Eagles

His first senior season, and a good one to be part of: Cup, league and promotion to the Super League. Klimas was eased in rather than thrown in, which suited a young guard finding the pace of Division One. He took his chances when they came, including five off the bench in the 107–74 win over Malahide. A year of national-league basketball under his belt. Early days, real foundations.
