Become a LionA volunteer-run underage club in Limerick, teaching basketball and the habits that go with it since 2004.
Limerick Lions Basketball Club was founded in 2004. From day one it has been run by volunteers: the people who sit on the committee, take the coaching sessions and manage the teams. Nobody here is paid to be on the sideline or in the committee room. That has not changed in twenty years.
We are an underage and junior club. We field boys teams from the youngest age groups right up to Under-20, and we run a senior men's team for players moving on from the juvenile ranks.
Our coaching is built on fundamental movement skills. We teach the game properly, and along the way we help young people improve their health, fitness and wellbeing. Our teams compete in the North Munster and Cork area leagues and in Basketball Ireland national competitions.

Start with the Lions in Limerick, and the Super League is where the road leads.
Darragh Horkan came through the Lions from Under-8s. This season, with the Limerick Sport Eagles in the Men's Super League, he was named Domino's Men's Division One Young Player of the Year for 2025-26. That is a pathway you can trace, and a player who has already made the jump.
He is not the only one. Fred Klimas, an Ireland youth international, is on the same road. Jake Moore and Covenant Ero, both named for Ireland U17, are working towards the Eagles' Super League programme. Limerick players, wearing the green, heading the same way.
